EAST ANGLIAN BORDER TERRIER CLUB
OPEN SHOW 17TH NOVEMBER 2007

This is the eleventh time I have had the honour to Judge a breed club show and to be amongst terrier club people can be the most enjoyable days judging, good dogs, nice people, thank you for your entry. I hope we are all still friends.

MINOR PUPPY DOG 4 [4]

1.Hopsons's Totemia Jesters Tear - At 7 months, showing promise as a future asset to the breed. Good maleness about him, with bone, head form, strong coat for all weathers, strong pelt, spannable, tail set right. Nice feet, straight front, moved well enough to go Best MPD and RBPIS.
2.Vasey & Peacocks Ruelate Boulder - just a bit slighter than 1, but at 7 months can make up a lot of ground. Conformation looked fine, with straight front, legs under him, for which he has some chest and lay of shoulder. Well presented, winner of Novice D
3.Peacocks Ragatam Harris.

JUNIOR DOG 7 [5]

1.Singh's Vandamere's Secret Agent JW - Very nice neat outline, balanced throughout. Good in front, shoulder, reach of neck, head form, tail on backend, feet, spannable with good coat, very nice Border T, well presented, will always be in contention.
2.Milton's Baillieswells Riechlacha - Very good Border Terrier with workmanlike coat in super nick. Liked the head, straight front and lay of shoulder. Strong in body, moved well.
3.Mudd's Sugarfield Super Trouper.

NOVICE DOG 5 [4]

1.Vasey & Peacock's Ruelate Boulder - Rept.
2.Hodgson's Tameila Harris Tweed - Good for size, with strong weather proof coat. Liked the head shape, into decent topline, with muscled back end, moved well.
3.Chandler's Baillieswells Benachie.

POST GRADUATE DOG 6 [4]

1.Jackson's Clipstone Work of Art - Lovely chap, with covering of well prepared coat, full of life and welcomed personality. Good straight front, feet, back end and one I liked as a dog. Strong head, firm, fit body, enough pelt to keep out the winter winds. Can move if you are quick. Just lost out for RBD, maybe some more experience for the dog will make a difference.
2.Wrigglesworth & Johnson's Blaentir Sky Quest - Good straight in front, with correct topline and tail on. Muscled back end, strong coat, moved OK.
3.Pateman's Lessien Dinx Boy Oberon.

LIMIT DOG 9 [7]

1.Hopson's Justrite Joker of Totemia - Very good in parts such as the strong muscled back end with enough stifle. The head, particularly teeth, bite, eye, ear shape; feet, condition, bone coat. Moved OK
2.Price's Oxcroft Roonie - Not strong in topline, but good front, with tail set looked right. Neat neck with well formed head. Bit short in brisket, which I feel one should try to avoid if possible. Moved well and presented in super nick.
3.Wrenn & Langdon's Hoary Morning.

OPEN DOG 4 [4]

Really competitive class with a couple of Champions and I gather a scattering of CCs.

1.Dean's Stineval Acerola - Not a dog I've seen before, but one that will continue to do well. Moved steady and true here although pushed very close by the Champions in 2nd & 3rd place. Didn't maintain that extra precision in the later challenge for RBIS, but well deserved BD & BOS. Quite balanced, weight, bone, muscle well distributed always making it with power, but handy. Good straight front, topline, feet, reach of neck with strength in head, bite, teeth etc. Good bone, feet, condition. With the 2nd so close up the performance was critical.
2.Hollingsbee's Ch Otterwood Amex JW shCM - One I have judged a few times before and always liked very much. Pleased to see that he got his deserved Ch. status. Today he was on form, put down in top condition as always. All the key points of coat, topline, head were spot on. In deciding between this and 1st place, I was in the realm of the mysteries of hair splitting. RBD
3.Aspinwall's Ch Farmway Night Owl JW - Another favourite who I've always felt goes better on grass, where he can really impress.
4.Small's Tulawyn Oberon at Tilmory.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG 7 [7]

1.Mudd's Sugarfield Super Trouper - Very neat with even proportions. Strong jacket, good tight feet, straight in front. Well presented.
2.Hodgson's Tameila Harris Tweed - Rept.
3.Small's Tulawyn Oberon at Tilmoray.

VETERAN DOG 6 [5]

1.Dickinson's Ch/Ir Ch Badgerholme Ripon Boy JW - Always a favrourite class at Breed Club shows and my thanks to all exhibitors both in the dog and bitch classes for bringing out the oldies. Ripon boy at 9 years must be known to most in the fancy, but I cannot recall judging him before. All the obvious points in place, coat still fit for purpose, moving as befits a champion. Would like to see a bit longer in the brisket, but who is to criticize. Well worth another win.
2.Alpe's Ch Pipruda Poachers Pocket - Seem to have judged before up in Norfolk, which is a safe bet at 12 years! Still knows how to move and has not lost his form, coat, head detail and is still worth his title.
3.Wren & Langdon's Dandyhow Sir Toby - At 10 years a favourite from his first show.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH 7 [6]

1.Hopson's Totemia Garden Party - Same way bred as my MPD I see, which makes the Hopson's very lucky. Liked the Garden party a lot, making her best here. Best MPB & BPIS. Good ratio of height to length, straight front, lay of shoulder, tight feet. Flow to neck, top line onto good tail set. At only 7 months must have a great future. Nice shape to body, head form nearly ideal, ears correct. Move well.
2.Hale's Dandyhow Queen Vic - Another great 7 month old youngster. Promising some tough competition ahead for them both. My notes give a 'ditto' to above in most regards, but I felt that 1st just had the moving edge. Another day, another judgment.
3.Yates Pherjan Phoebe.

PUPPY BITCH 5 [2]

1.Bronley's Tezaland Valentine Dream at Borderholic - Moved straight and true with good jacket, top and bottom coverage to suit all weathers. Nice topline, but just a tad long cast. Could cover lots of ground with ease.
2.Youngs Eevee Emily at Cafrajam - Shorter in neck than 1st, and not moving so well. Perhaps a little indulged, but time and exercise will make her more competitive, certainly well worth it.

JUNIOR BITCH 5 [3]

1.Hunt's Ottaswell Carmen - Well she certainly put a spell on me. Winner here, Best Bitch and BIS. Not a bad haul. This was the 'Border picture', nothing extreme, not too much of this or that, just balance. All those fine points we all enjoy in harmony. Good conformation, enough in front of a straight front, good lay in and lay back of shoulder, reach of neck just about perfect for length with a sensible head, not extreme in any dimension as some are. Top line flowed with good tail set, muscled back end with enough stifle. Good double jacket, feet, movement improved to very good in the later challenge. Rhythm of the drums without the music.
2.Day's Sexton Magic Betula of Withershins - Very sound bitch with good head on nice reach of neck, feet OK, moved well. Top and undercoat could be better trimmed.
3.Mudd's Sugarfield Dancing Queen.

NOVICE BITCH 9 [8]

1.Hunt's Ottarswell Carmen - Rept.
2.Noseda Clipstone Penny Pocket - Very nice bitch with a good ratio of length to height, which makes for a balanced dog. Right size with neck flowing into good top line. Neat feet with weatherproof covering, tail set just on the low side of perfect.
3.Peakock's Ragatan Harmony.

POST GRADUATE BITCH 13 [8]

1.Bryan & Pounder's Hemlockstone Jinni - Lots to like about this very tidy girl. Well put down, top line, tail set, good head, eye. Height to length ratio looked right, great coat presentation, spannable. Smaller ear than most and certainly well worth a second look.
2.Vasey's Ruelat Allspice JW - Good shoulder placement, top line and tail set. Like the typical head, straight in front, moved well, tidy feet. Well in contention.
3.O'Shea's Kelgram Kayotic at Shaamit.

LIMIT BITCH 11 [8]

1.Hollingsbee's Otterwood Ilex JW Sh CM. Obviously successful in her showing career and again here. Good for size, coat top and undercoat, top line, feet, reach of neck and good head. Nice balanced bitch who moved well.
2.Kemeny's Tyrian Rosebud - Lovely handy sized bitch, just a shade long cast, but acceptable in a bitch. Tail well set and turn of stifle, with good drive. Moved well, head, ear set looked good, bite and other bits well put together.
3.South's Borderalla Emma.

OPEN BITCH 8 [8]

1.Hollingsbee's Otterwood Breeze Sh CM JW - One I have seen before and have seen her in all her moods, mostly indifference, lack of sparkle and a difficult one to show and judge. Today was her day on, they don't seem to come too often so you have to grab it when you can. She is a good Border Terrier, size, weight, spannable, muscled back end, topline, tail set, lay of shoulder, coat, preparation as always spot on. Winner here RBB & RBIS. Out performing her kennel partner.
2.Singh's Nanrich Lets Go to Vandamere - Good handy balanced bitch. Fit, muscled, nice front, top line, moved well. Nice Border Terrier head, ears, eye, etc. Well presented and made for a very competitive class.
3.Pinkham's Pipruda Timetrial.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH 6 [5]

1.Bryan & Ponder's Hemlockstone Jinni - Rept.
2.South's Borderella Amy - Good handy size, topline, tail on, neatly prepared, good neck form and length to nicely formed head piece. Just a tad generous.
3.Day's Sexton Magic Betula of Withershins.

VETERAN BITCH 7 [6]

1.Hollingsbee's Badgerholme the Oaks at Otterwood JW Sh CM - Just a bit over the age limit so had the advantage of youth. Oh I remember it so well! Well constructed in body from and overall within size. Bit up on leg, but moved to suit.
2.South's Olderhill Hesta at Borderella - Moved in a blur of swift strides that helps her 8 years young age. Obviously very fit, active and a tremendous asset to the breeds reputation. On the small side of expectations. Head, neck angle, topline, tail on, happy extrovert. My notes say 'so quick'
3.O'Shea's Kelgram Kayotic at Shammit.
